What
is Pilates?
Pilates (pronounced Pi-lah-tees) is a unique form of exercise
developed by Joseph Pilates in New York from 1920-1968. Today, Pilates
has become increasingly recognised in dance, sports, health and fitness
as a key strengthening and stretching program. Used for rehabilitation
and body conditioning it is very popular with people of all age groups
and fitness levels.
Pilates
On Help
At Pilates On Help, the program is based on Pilates mat work and the complete workout uses only body weight. Classes are performed on the floor using a system of gentle exercises, which require total control over body movements at all times. Posture and alignment are the focus of every workout developing abdominal strength to support all movements. This safely and effectively promotes muscle strength and flexibility and enhances body awareness and core stability. It is a fantastic form of exercise for people with chronic back or neck pain, people recovering from a recent back or neck problem, as well as those who want to prevent back and neck problems in the future.
